UNGEWITTER, G.G.  PLANS AND DESIGNS FOR GOTHIC FURNITURE.

London: Trubner and Co., 1858. Folio. Cloth spine, publisher's boards. Frontispiece, 10 pages, 48 plates. First English language edition.

First published in 1851 under the title of Entwurfe zu Gothischen Mobeln, the book was a strong influence on the popularity of the Gothic Revival in Germany.  Ungewitter was trained in Munich by Friedrich von Gartner and Friedrich Burklein.  Auguste Reichensperger, A.W.N. Pugin and Viollet-le-Duc were strong influences.  His book illustrates Gothic designs for beds, tables, chairs, wardrobes, dressers, cupboards, and other specialty items, all showing details and measured drawings.  Ungewitter taught at the Applied Arts School, Kassel, from 1851 and executed a few, commissions, all heavily influenced by the English Gothic Revival.  Rare.  No copies cited by OCLC.  Original cloth spine heavily chipped, some sporadic foxing, front plain endpaper with vertical creases.
