Being the first American architectural periodical. This is a complete run save for one issue of Volume III. It has a wealth of architectural information with articles on furniture, iron and fireproof construction, landscape gardening, iron store fronts and public baths. It also has news reports on the renovation of the U.S. Capitol, the Asylum for the Insane (New Jersey,) Pittsburgh's City Hall, and other specific building projects, including several in New York City. New methods for ventilation, home designs, carpentry, and other architecturally related subjects are covered. Volume I was later reissued as a book, City Homes, Country Homes, (1871.) Volume II was never reprinted. Rebacked using original spines as overlays.
