PINEAU, Nicolas. NOUVEAUX DESSINS DE LITS. INVENTES PAR LE SIEUR PINEAU.
Paris: Mariette, n.d. (Circa second quarter of 18th century). Large folio. Later cloth spine, marbled boards. Suite of 6 numbered plates.
Scarce early series of French furniture designs mainly of beds and bed hangings. Only four copies are listed on OCLC in American libraries. Pineau was acknowledged by his contemporaries as the most influential Parisian designers of interiors and furnishings in the 1730s and 1740s. He developed a distinctive style eliminating straight lines in favor of graceful curves, often with some deliberate asymmetry in the placing of decorative features. Although a large collection of his drawings is preserved in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, only a small selection of his designs were engraved for publication during his lifetime. Slight wear at extremities of spine; upper inner hinge splitting; plates lightly browned with tiny tear at fore edge of first page, else very good.
