A Pattern and Sales Book

(TRADE CATALOGUE)  SHEFFIELD PLATE, A PATTERN AND SALES BOOK (circa 1785).

Sheffield: (circa 1785). Oblong 4to. Contemporary green vellum spine and marbled boards. 35 engraved leaves, one of which folding. First thus.

An extremely nice pattern book, showing sixty-nine pieces of silver plate in the Adams style.  Some of the items, such as cruet bottle stands and desk sets, are very seldom depicted.  The book was used by travelling salesmen.  The items are numbered in the plate.   Included are candlesticks (with and without snuffers), candelabra, an urn with a spout, cup, tea kettle, wine decanters, spoons, desk sets, and cruet arrangements.  Such eighteenth century pattern books are increasingly uncommon, especially one of this quality in the Adams style.  Minor chipping at the head of the spine, else a very good copy.
