CALVIN, Jean. THE INSTITVTION OF CHRISTIAN RELIGION.
London: Reginalde Wolffe, 1574. 4to. Contemporary full-calf. (viii), 472, (56) leaves. Third English edition.
First published in Latin in Geneva in 1536, and first translated by Thomas Norton into English in 1561, this is considered the seminal work on Protestant systematic theology. Norton was the son-in-law of Archbishop Thomas Cramner who is considered the founder of the Anglican church and who also was greatly influenced by Calvin, Luther and the other leading fathers of the Protestant Reformation on the continent. Rebacked using the original spine as an overlay. Minor patch to lower tip of title page -- not affecting text, else very good.
