A scarce trade catalogue.  OCLC does record some copies of the Murdock Parlour Grate Company catalogues (with only a few copies of any edition), but the only copy similar to our copy is recorded in four libraries on OCLC in American libraries.  A richly illustrated catalogue of fireplace surrounds, inserts, grates, fenders, andirons, firesets, wood baskets, etc. nearly all of it quite decorative with many in the Aesthetic Movement style.  The major items give measurements, and there is a full price list in the back.  The Murdock Parlour Grate Company was begun in 1848 with their factory in Middleboro, Massachusetts and by 1906 was merged with the Murdock-Shaw Company.  With numerous pages of advertisements including illustrated advertisements for furniture, interior designers, artistic hardware, rattan chairs, and an early illustrated advertisement for Holtzer-Cabot Electric Co., electrical supplies.  The only dates to appear in the catalogue are copyright dates for some the fireplace designs.  The latest of these is 1889.  A substantial and very appealing catalogue.  Good, a few small chips to covers, but a sound, clean copy.
