COMSTOCK, William T. MODERN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNS AND DETAILS.
New York: Comstock, (1881). Folio. Publisher's cloth. (viii), xi, (ii) pages, 80 plates. First, and only, edition. [Hitchcock, 279].
A diverse offering of patterns in many styles from Elizabethan through Eastlake. The architect who designed each house is noted. These include Lamb & Wheeler (New York), William Preston (Boston), William Tuthill (New York), and J.P. Putnam (Boston). In addition to the houses there are measured drawings for gazebos, store fronts, lattice work, bank fixtures, ventilating registers, and chimney tops. Curiously the foreword and table of contents are both in German and English--an attempt, no doubt, at reaching the Pennsylvania Dutch market. With thirteen pages of advertisements, including one for H.W. Johns's Liquid Asbestos Paints. With inscription of early owner on reverse of title page; "A. C. Koontz/ His book/ Bedford/ Bedford Co./ Pa." Light rubbing to extremities; still a very nice copy of a book increasingly uncommon in commerce.
