DANCKERS, Justus. ARCHITECTURA CHIVILIS.
Amsterdam: Danckers, circa 1660s. Folio. Later wrappers. Engraved title leaf, 8 pages, 46 of 48 plates. First edition.
A practical architectural book explaining proper framing, especially of roofs, for churches and other buildings. The work relies heavily on Scamotsi's Vignola. Lacking plates 28 and 48. A most uncommon work. While there are twenty-seven copies listed in OCLC, only nine are in American libraries. We were unable to find another copy for sale in commerce or at auction. Bound in later wrappers. Two of the plates are folding. Danckers was a well-known engraver and mapmaker in the seventeenth century. The engraved title leaf is slightly browned, else a very good copy.
